IH Heroes Receives Honorable Mention at PR News' CSR and Nonprofit Awards Luncheon

The American Industrial Hygiene Association is pleased to announce that its IH Heroes outreach program received an honorable mention for the Corporate Social Responsibility and Nonprofit Award in the Volunteer Program category by PR News. The PR News CSR and Nonprofit Awards celebrate the communicators that work hard to make the world a better place via corporate social responsibility and nonprofit initiatives.

"AIHA's IH Heroes program materials have reached thousands of students across the country already, aiding their understanding of what industrial hygiene is and how it is a viable Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) career to explore. That is the reward," says Susan Marchese, managing director of marketing and communications, AIHA. "The honor of being nominated by PR News represents the validation that IH Heroes is even having an impact on general public awareness about this vital profession."

"Creating and expanding the IH Heroes project has been an exhilarating experience," says Ben H. Rome, AIHA's marketing and communications manager and the IH Heroes project lead. "When we started out, we had no idea this would turn into a generation-spanning program. The potential impact on our world from today's students who choose such viable STEM careers is staggering. It's been an amazing experience so far. With what we have planned for the future, that's not going to stop anytime soon!"

IH Heroes is part of AIHA's overarching public education and outreach program called IH Professional Pathway. The program's goal is to raise general awareness about the role that industrial hygienists play in all workplace settings, and their impact on the health and safety of workers and the community, thereby engaging students to pursue it as a career.

The finalists of PR News' CSR Awards and Nonprofit Awards for the Volunteer Program span a wide variety of organizations, with brands like Anthem Foundation/Anthem Associates, Brillio, Kentucky Fried Chicken Global, Mastercard and Smile Brands Inc. The finalists were selected on the impact of the communications campaigns they've led in the past 18 months and on the positive influence they've had on society at large.
