Sherwin-Williams Launches Coating that Resists Mold, Fungus and Mildew on Exterior Wine Storage Tanks

Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings announces the launch of EnviroLastic® 8350, a fast-drying, high solids polyaspartic urethane coating specifically formulated to resist film attack by mold, fungus, and mildew on storage tank exteriors used in wine production facilities and other related food and beverage industries. EnviroLastic 8350 coating allows superficial dirt and fouling to be washed away from structures without damaging the coating or
requiring the use of harsh chemicals.

Provides Durable Finish
The coating offers chemical resistance to alcohol-based fumes, including ethanol and wine alcohol – as well as hot oils and grease – making it ideal for the winery industry and alcohol distilleries, as well as other food and beverage applications.

EnviroLastic 8350 coating is not prone to color change due to sunlight exposure and is chemical-resistant to aggressive detergents and disinfectants, should use of them be needed. Its unique resistance to microbial and fouling surface penetration allows for superficial matter to be easily steam cleaned, maintaining the tank’s clean and pristine appearance to keep facilities looking their best longer.

“We understand that image and first impressions are important, especially in the food and beverage industry,” said Rebecca Dolton, Food & Beverage Market Director, Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings. “EnviroLastic 8350 was created to provide asset owners with a specialized coating to keep their tanks always looking freshly painted.”

Fast Dry Time
With the coating’s fast dry-to-touch times of 45 to 55 minutes, dirt pickup during application is reduced. The low temperature cure of 35°F (1.6°C) also helps to eliminate application issues due to dirt pickup.

“This is a uniquely formulated first-to-market product solution,” said Danica Zeise, Product Manager, Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings. “At Sherwin-Williams, we are proud to exclusively offer this polyaspartic coating to the industry.”

EnviroLastic 8350 can be used as a maintenance coating over existing foam- and urethane-insulated wine storage tanks as well as adjacent exposed exterior wine substrates, and is suitable for use in USDAinspected and Canadian food processing facilities.

The fast dry, abrasion-resistant coating is dry to touch in less than an hour and cures extremely fast – with a full cure achieved within a day. It can be applied via plural component heated spray equipment in ambient temperatures as low as 35°F (1.6°C) and as high as 120°F (49°C).
