IDG's
CIO® Magazine announced PPG Architectural Coatings U.S. and Canada
(USCA) as a recipient of the 2015 CIO 100® Award. PPG was honored
for development of a digital kiosk that aids consumers in selecting paint
colors for home décor projects. The award recognizes organizations around the
world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in
information technology (IT).
The
award-winning kiosk, the PPG Color Work Station, was released in May 2014 as
part of a new in-store retail color palette display with an integrated 42-inch
digital touchscreen work station. The integrated digital work station provides
tools to help customers explore color options such as the abilities to
virtually paint room images with any color, to scan color chips and brochures
with a barcode reader to view color on a larger scale on the screen, and to
receive swatches and images of virtually painted rooms at home via email to
view later. The state-of-the-art kiosk is part of THE VOICE OF COLOR® program
by PPG and can be found at PPG PAINTS™ stores and independent dealer locations
across the U.S.
“It
is truly an honor to once again be a recipient of the CIO 100 Award.
This recognition helps reinforce PPG’s commitment to deliver differentiated
technology solutions to support the strategic initiatives of our businesses,”
said Werner Baer, vice president of information technology, PPG Industries.
“Our goal as an IT organization is to continually drive toward innovative
solutions that will enable a competitive advantage for the businesses we
serve.”
"For
28 years now, the CIO 100 awards have honored the innovative use of
technology to deliver genuine business value," said Maryfran Johnson,
editor in chief, CIO Magazine & Events. "Our 2015 winners are
an outstanding example of the transformative power of IT to drive everything
from revenue growth to competitive advantage."
Recipients
of this year's CIO 100 Award were selected through a three-step process.
First, companies filled out an online application detailing their innovative IT
and business initiatives. Next, a team of external judges (many of them former
chief information officers) reviewed the applications in depth, looking for
leading-edge IT practices and measurable results. Finally, CIO editors
reviewed the judges' recommendations and selected the final 100.
Executives
from the winning companies will be recognized at The CIO 100 Symposium
& Awards Ceremony on August 11 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs,
Colorado. Coverage of the 2015 CIO 100 Awards will be available online
at CIO.com on Aug. 1 and in the August issue of CIO magazine.
