Johns Manville Announces New JM Corbond® IV Fourth-Generation, Closed-Cell Spray Foam

Johns Manville (JM), a leading global manufacturer of energy-efficient building and industrial insulation products and a Berkshire Hathaway company, announced today the addition of JM Corbond® IV Closed-Cell Spray Polyurethane Foam to its complete line of building insulation products.

JM Corbond IV is a fourth-generation, closed-cell spray foam made with a hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) blowing agent. It has been engineered to meet stringent new regulations prohibiting the use of materials that have a high Global Warming Potential (GWP). JM released JM Corbond IV to provide a high-quality spray foam product that meets environmental initiatives and changing regulations aimed at decreasing global warming.

“We are excited to release a product that has excellent thermal performance and supports the initiatives of evolving environmental regulations,” said Cassie Todtenhagen, JM’s Spray Foam Product Manager. “As an insulation manufacturer, producing materials that support energy efficiency is one of our top priorities. With JM Corbond IV, we can also offer an excellent insulation that has a reduced impact on the environment.”

Yusheng Zhao, Senior Research Chemist at JM, explained that JM Corbond IV is designed to provide similar performance to JM Corbond® III. “JM Corbond IV not only has a lower GWP than JM Corbond III, but also performs competitively in terms of R-value, spray yield and cooling requirements [exothermic properties] when you compare it to the previous generation,” he said. “The main difference between the two products is in the new, HFO blowing agent.”

The new blowing agent in JM Corbond IV has a GWP of less than 2 and an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) of 0. It is an excellent choice for high-performing, energy-efficient commercial and residential insulation applications. JM Corbond IV is immediately available to ship anywhere in the United States and will soon be available to ship anywhere in Canada. JM Corbond III will still be available to ship in the U.S. to all states excluding California, New York, New Jersey, Vermont, and Washington.
