New Polyaspartic Topcoat for Low-Gloss Finish

Construction solutions manufacturer LATICRETE is introducing SPARTACOTE FLEX XPL as a low-gloss, high-solids, and minimal odor polyaspartic coating for both decorative and protective applications.

Low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the polyaspartic coating is designed to provide an attractive low-gloss finish when used as a topcoat. According to the manufacturer, this makes it ideal when understated, subtle light reflection is desired.

Alternative to High-Gloss Finishes

“SPARTACOTE FLEX XPL Low Gloss was added to the SPARTACOTE line of resinous flooring and decorative coating systems to offer contractors an alternative to the high-gloss finish traditionally seen with polyaspartics and epoxies,” said Ben Lampi, product manager. “This product not only has superior chemical resistance, but it offers a quicker turnaround time and customizable, beautiful aesthetics.”

Engineered to retain a low viscosity for longer periods of time, the coating allows for easier application and improved workability, according to the manufacturer. It can be applied in single or multiple coats by brush, roller, squeegee, or a resin broom.

Good for High-Traffic Applications

The polyaspartic provides optimal impact, abrasion, and chemical resistance characteristics, the manufacturer explains, making it convenient for high-traffic applications. The material is ideal for use as a clear topcoat within resinous flooring systems, or can be used direct-to-concrete as a low-gloss sealer. Since its ultraviolet (UV) stable nature provides no opportunity for discoloration, the coating is suitable for both interior and exterior applications.

The polyaspartic coating is available in premeasured units. Part A is offered in a 2.3 gallon (8.7 L) size and packaged in a 3.5 gallon (13.2 L) pail, while Part B is available in a 1 gallon (3.8 L) size and packaged in a 1 gallon can.
