Annual CONSTRUCT Show Opens in California

Held in conjunction with the annual convention of the Construction Specifiers Institute (CSI), CONSTRUCT begins on Wednesday, October 3, at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California, and runs through Friday, October 5.

It is the only national trade show and educational conference dedicated to bringing commercial building teams together to procure real-world, practical knowledge for building success. With continuing education unit (CEU) credits available, the three-day conference and expo offers a variety of different solutions-driven learning opportunities for attendees to stay up to date on the latest trends.

Attendees are expected to include construction specifiers, architects, designers, engineers, project managers, contractors, construction managers, estimators, and manufacturers.

Conference Education Program

The education component includes introductory, intermediate, and advanced tracks designed for architects/designers, building owners/managers, contractors, engineers, interior designers, manufacturer/ product representatives, and specifiers. The program was created with the support of an industry peer group, which reviewed hundreds of presentation submissions.

For coatings contractors, events of potential interest may include Wednesday sessions on why water in new concrete decks negatively affects roof systems (8:00 a.m. local time); preventing high-rise building envelope system failures (1:10 p.m.); and a complete wall hands-on workshop on maintaining continuous insulation and air barriers at transitions (4:00 p.m.).

Thursday’s relevant items begin with a look ahead to architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry trends and challenges in 2019 (7:30 a.m.); understanding and ending moisture related flooring problems (8:15 a.m.); and a thought leader session regarding knowledge transfer and ethical responsibilities for AEC professionals (10:00 a.m.).

Friday’s slate includes topics such as systemic building envelope failure horror stories and how to avoid them (7:30 a.m.); using specifications to bridge the gap between design and construction (8:15 a.m.); and a thought leader session on the digital transformation of specifications (10:00 a.m.) The full session schedule can be read here.

Exposition and Events

In addition to education, CONSTRUCT presents delegates with opportunities to visit with hundreds of exhibitors and manufacturers offering products and services to meet the needs of the commercial building industry to design, build, renovate, and operate.

“Product manufacturers and service providers offer the latest in practical product solutions to assist the building team in building smarter and more efficiently to build projects on time and on budget,” event organizers say.

The exhibition is designed to be an intimate show, allowing more than 150 select exhibitors to more personally engage with conference attendees across ~28,000 sq. ft. (2,601 m2) of space. The exhibit hall, which includes Learning Lounges for exhibitor-led educational sessions and a Demo Pavilion for 30-minute product demonstrations, will be open on Thursday and Friday.
