Leading corrosion solution specialist Presserv Ltd will announce tomorrow (Tuesday, 5 September 2017) at Offshore Europe in Aberdeen that it has signed an agreement for exclusive Scotland and offshore UK distribution rights with Sponge Jet, an innovative abrasive blasting technology which saves operators time and money.
Unlike standard blasting methods which utilise water or grit to blast surfaces in preparation for applying corrosion solutions, Sponge Jet uses small pieces of sponge as its abrasive substance. Presserv will be demonstrating the cutting-edge technology at Offshore Europe from 5-8 September on stand 3E88, with a working model that shows exactly how it is used on site.
Stuart Rennie, sales manager at Presserv, says, “Sponge Jet is an incredible tool that has revolutionised the way surfaces can be prepared for corrosion protection, and we are thrilled to be able to offer it to the Scottish and offshore UK energy industries.
“The Sponge Jet low dust and low rebound technology means that surface preparation can continue alongside other trades, where previously traditional grit blasting methods required full encapsulation. In the oil and gas industry, time is money, so being able to continue work while blasting is taking place is a huge advantage for operators.
“The sponges used in blasting are collected easily following use and are highly recyclable. Depending on the surface and application, sponges can be used up to 10 times – meaning abrasive requirements are reduced by up to 90%. This, again, represents a significant monetary saving over standard grit and water blasting methods, and also reduces the storage space requirements on a platform or vessel.
“Because of Sponge Jet’s low dust and low rebound, work spaces are kept to a minimum and there is less impact upon normal operations. By reducing dust levels, there is less risk of eye injuries, less waste generation, and worker visibility is increased allowing for a faster rate of application.
“With the constant recycling of abrasive materials, coupled with lesser requirement for logistics and transporting materials due to 60-90% lighter weights compared to ordinary grit, Sponge Jet also stands as a more environmentally friendly option than other methods of surface preparation.”
Presserv’s agreement with Sponge Jet will see its teams providing surface preparation services to operators across offshore UK and industry throughout Scotland, however the company can also sell and hire out equipment, and provide training to in-house crews.
This recent appointment complements Presserv’s existing contracts with Sponge Jet to supply the product in South Korea and Norway, where it is also used extensively to prepare inland bridges for corrosion protection.
