Entries are now being accepted for Tnemec’s 2014 Tank
of the Year competition, announced Doug Hansen, Director of Sales, Water Tank
Market. “This will be the ninth consecutive year we will recognize the
aesthetic, creative and innovative uses of Tnemec coatings on water tanks,”
Hansen explained. “The deadline for submitting new construction or renovation
projects is October 1st and all tank styles are eligible as long as they are
completed by that deadline.”
How to Submit Your Entry
Nominations can be submitted by visiting
www.tnemec.com/tankoftheyear.
All electronic nomination forms must be accompanied by a photo or photos of the
tank. Once the deadline has passed, all nominees will be placed in an online
ballot. Anyone is able, and encouraged, to vote.
Once voting is completed and the top twelve tanks are
decided by the public, a committee of water tank enthusiasts will judge the
contenders based on several criteria including artistic value, significance of
the tank to the surrounding community, and challenges encountered during the
project. The overall winner of the 2014 Tank of the Year contest will be
announced in early November.
Previous Winners
Tnemec’s 2013 Tank of the Year winner prevails in Mt.
Vernon, Illinois. Part of a major rebranding effort for Mt. Vernon, this
elevated water tank’s mural and city tagline, “Creativity Redefined,” stood out
against the competition. The tank’s design, a top-to-bottom mural of
multi-colored and spiraling bubble-like shapes, was coated using Tnemec’s
fluoropolymer finish coat for long-term gloss and color retention.
“The judges were impressed by the tank’s colorful artwork,”
said Hansen. “It’s not every day that you see a water tank’s design painted
from the bottom of the pedestal all the way up.” This artwork, and the tank’s importance to
the local community, helped it stand out from more than 200 Tank of the Year
nominations total and the eleven other top-voted tanks.
Previous year’s winners include the Rosemont, Illinois,
pedestal tank in 2006; the Anderson, South Carolina, hot air balloon tanks in
2007; the Lake Villa, Illinois, Providence at Painted Lakes pedestal tank in
2008; the Darree Fields Hydropillar in Dublin, Ohio, in 2009; the Newton,
Kansas, composite tank in 2010; the Hollywood, Florida, “Turtle” legged tank in
2011; and the Okaloosa County, Florida, elevated tank in 2012.
In addition to choosing a 2013 Tank of the Year, Tnemec
named eleven additional nominations as runners-up, which were each featured in
the annual water tank wall calendar. The eleven 2013 runners-up, listed in
alphabetical order, were from Albany, N.Y.; Brookfield, Ill.; Dayton, Ohio;
Grove City, Ohio; Lincoln, Neb.; Perham, Minn.; Queensville, Ontario, Canada;
Randolph, Neb.; Silvis, Ill.; Union Grove, Wis.; and White House, Tenn.
Runners-up will again be named in the 2014 contest.
Increased Popularity
“The Tnemec Tank of the Year competition has gained
popularity in the industry, since its inception in 2006, and it continues to
grow exponentially,” Hansen added. “The contest has drawn media attention from
local and national television networks and print publications.”
With the help of this expanding media interest, last
year’s contest garnered 31,205 visits to the voting website and the company
distributed close to 10,000 water tank calendars across the United States and
Canada.
